Good picture day

It never fails, as soon as school starts we get awesome weather! I remember from when I was in school and taught it, September is always the nicest month. It's been a pretty cool summer and now for the past 4 days it's been 90 degrees at least! I've had the slip and slide set up the past couple of days for the kids to cool off. I had the camera outside today too and got lucky with a couple of snap shots. The kids move so much they might have a completely different face by the time my shutter actually captures the shot I was going for. But like I said, I lucked out and ended up with one of my favorite shots of Kai. Tell me if you like it in B&W or color better. And Noah's ears don't really stick out that far, it was caught on the pillow part of his seat. I think it adds to the cuteness though, right, he's our little elf baby!

Mia's a kindergartener...

Well, today we sent our oldest off to school. Aaron took the day off so he could be there. She's in kindergarten at Meadow Heights Elementary. I thought I was going to have a major meltdown the morning of, but I only cried the night before watching her sleep. We didn't realize there would be so much traffic so we were almost late dropping her off. That took some of the anxiety away from the actual "drop off" moment. It was so cute, the night before she laid out her first day outfit all on her own and then went right to bed at 8:30 no questions asked. For those of you who know Mia well, that was HUGE. She is a night owl and will stay up past midnight no problem if we let her. She was so excited for the big day -- not nervous at all. When we were talking about all the new friends she would make she just asked, "will they introduce themselves because I'm shy." I almost had to laugh out loud because she is not shy! I told her the teacher would make sure everyone would introduce themselves and she would have to introduce herself as well. The morning of the big day, she was up and dressed and at our bedside 5 minutes before the alarm went off. Her teacher's name is Ms Sibaila (suh-bay-lah) and she is a no nonsense lady. Not mean, just very orderly and professional. It's just what Mia needs. She's been a K teacher for 12 years and really knows what she's doing. Anyway, after we picked her up we had a celebratory lunch at Red Robin. Aaron let Mia pick anywhere she wanted (we were thinking along the lines of McDonalds or Wendy's). He couldn't refuse her after he had said ANYWHERE so, Red Robin it was. We tried to ask her what they did in class and she just said "I'm having trouble remembering". What? It had only been a half an hour since we picked her up. Oh well, we didn't get many details, but knew that she must have had fun because she was excited to go the next day. She had a great first day and now we have to keep this up for the rest of the year.

My hair nightmare, but I'm blonde again!!

So I had a little mid-pregnancy crisis back in November and thought it would be a good idea to change my hair since there wasn't much else in life I could change. I feel so sorry for my hair after seeing all these pictures. I do not recommend doing this, my hair is FRIED. For some reason every hairstylist refused to make drastic changes to my hair (I can't imagine why?!). I ran into this problem when I tried to go brunette from blond, so I did it myself. It took a couple of steps, but turned out fine. I discovered it's hard to pull off the brunette look and missed the blonde. Then same thing, the hairstylists kept wanting to take these itsy bitsy baby step to getting my hair light again. I tried doing it myself again...total train wreck! My head looked like it was on fire and I had to have a corrective color done and I was still darker than I wanted to be. Finally our cousin who is a great hair stylist moved to town and agreed to do it (thanks Barb!) so now I can say with confidence LIFE IS BETTER BLONDE!

Here I am!!

So I really didn't think I would get sucked into this, I had my own little spot on myspace and was content to post there. However after reading my brothers travel blog for the past six months and seeing some familiar faces I decided to join the League of Extraordinary Bloggers. Plus it's much easier to share pics and stories with the fam and friends here since my Myspace page is private and half of them don't have accounts there. Here's some fast facts on Julie :)
