Feeling neglected?

So we have had two recent occasions that were "blog worthy" of Aaron, however both have passed and I still haven't mentioned him. The first was his birthday. He turned 33 on May 31. I was planning on doing a nice little birthday blog for him, HOWEVER...he snubbed my birthday gift to him and we ended up in a little spat that day. So, would you like to know what he snubbed? Here it is

Yes, a 47" LCD flat screen TV, that his cousin mounted on the wall for him, so when he came home it was ready to go! I thought he was going to be thrilled. Instead he came in saw it, sat down, watched TV, didn't say thank you then later when I asked him what he thought he said "it isn't what I envisioned." GRRRR! I about lost it. Not only did he get the new TV he had mentioned, but it was completely installed. I hadn't just given it to him in a box with a bow and left all the work up to him. So I was disappointed, I mean how many other husbands would have been doing cartwheels? But, whatever, he got over it and loves it now. For his birthday with the kids we went to a little festival and ate all the carnie food our little hearts desired.

Then for his "grown up" birthday celebration we went to a local fondue restaurant with Aaron's sister Amber, his cousin Chelsea and some longtime friends Austin and Beth. It was so much fun, we sat and ate and talked for three hours with no kids!

The second occasion that I failed to honor Aaron over was Father's Day. He is the hardest working father I have ever met. He is such a family man and loves his kids more than anything. I really lucked out getting such a great man to be the father of my children. He even proved his fatherly devotion that day, when Kai ate some peanuts in nursery. I rushed home, called the pediatrician, then said to bring him in. Aaron was adamant about being the one to take him, so off they went. I told him I would go so he could stay home, eat lunch and get a nap, but his mind was made up. The pediatrician sent them to the ER (yes, AGAIN) where they were able to get enough medication in him and monitor Kai well enough that they were able to make it home for Father's Day dinner. I was very happy they did too because my cousin Trevor and his wife Lindsay came with their new little boy, Calvin. They are here for the summer on an internship. It was great having their little family with us to celebrate. So here's to Aaron!! Sorry it took me so long.

Lesson NOT learned??

So... I often will hand one of the two older kids the whole box of cereal or the whole bag of crackers for them to snack on. They don't have out of control appetites and will never end up eating the whole bag so that's not a problem I have to worry about. No, instead I hand over the snack in it's entirety and walk away, then when I come back TA DA! Snack all over the floor, then I have the audacity to get upset with them! Silly mom, it's my fault, why do I keep handing things over when I KNOW how it's going to end up?! Oh, and it hasn't just been food.

MMM...this is an especially tasty day, sunchips AND goldfish!

Oh yes, let's not forget the laundry that I like to leave in baskets. Instead of only needing to fold laundry once I get the special treat of doing it twice thanks to my laziness.

Last day of school

Well Mia is now considered a 1st grader...WEIRD! Anyway, it was a great year. If the rest of her school years go by as fast as this one, high school graduation seems to be just around the corner.

Some day I'm not going to work here!

I just got off the phone with Aaron and he said something kind of funny to me and I thought I would share this little story. It's Friday night, I'm feeling pretty lazy, and I ordered a pizza for dinner-not really unheard of. So I call Aaron after we ate, to remind him to pick up his paycheck. This is the rest of our conversation:

Aaron: So what are you guys up to tonight?

Julie: I just ordered a pizza and now the kids are playing in Noah's room

Aaron: WHAT?!

Julie: What? Are you mad we ordered a pizza?

Aaron: Ugggh! Yeah! Someday I'm not going to work here.

Julie: Sorry, should I bring you some?

Aaron: Nah, it's not the same...

Now everyone knows Aaron misses out on a lot because he works two jobs. He's missed out on Halloweens, Thanksgivings, parent/teacher conference, but the thing that causes him the most envy about me being home while he is working is the fact that I ordered a pizza! I thought that was pretty funny. I've never heard him express how he looks forward to not working his night job when he's missing out on a big Thanksgiving spread.

If the price of gas continues to rise...

Seriously, I don't know what to do. Around here it inched up to $4/gal, I think most of the stations were afraid to "go there". Prices at our cheapest stations stayed at 3.89 then 3.99 for a week each, but once it crossed the $4 mark there has been NO stopping it. Every day I drive past the station is has gone up 4, 5, 6, 7 cents. It was $4.25 yesterday and I'm really hoping it still is today since I should gas up, ack! I've been trying to fill up at 1/2 tank so it doesn't hurt the wallet so hard at one time.
I keep hearing about people cutting down on driving, but really all the driving we do is pretty non-negotiable. Taking kids to school, getting groceries, going to work, we don't do much "let's go on a nice Sunday drive" driving. I guess you could call our two, 400 mile road trips this summer our expendable driving. That's 800 miles round trip each, for a total of 1600 miles total, plus the driving we do once we arrive at our destinations. We're driving down to my parents at the end of June, and then mid-August we're going on a boating trip to Lake Trinity, but I'm wondering if that might get scrapped due to the fact they just declared California in a drought. Trinity might not have much water in it for us to ski on.
You know what really drives me crazy though? How gas shoots up 5 cents a day, but then when it starts to go down, it's penny by penny and like once or twice a week, it's a conspiracy! Here I sit complaining about gas (which it is really aggravating for the average person), but I can't imagine if I was a farmer or a trucker where gas isn't a luxury, but a necessity for their livelihood. I wish we hadn't become so dependent in the first place because this sucks!

BTW: Gas was 4.27 when I went back today and the lines were out the driveways, so I'm going back later tonight, hopefully it won't be up to $4.30 by then!

Any day now?

So I caught Noah on camera taking some steps BUT he is still mostly a crawler :( I just keep saying "any day now" he'll at least start walking 50% of the time, but who knows at the rate he's going!

Getting ready for summer???

Or so I thought after our mini heat wave a couple weeks back. That's why I couldn't complain about that super hot weather, now it's gone, it's June, it was 59 degrees today. I had to put jackets and sweatshirts on the kids when we went out this afternoon!
